In a single-day count, 4,299 people in West Virginia were receiving methadone as part of their substance use treatment, and 1,134 were receiving buprenorphine. Both of these numbers are down slightly over the past few years, but are fairly steady overall.

Among residents in West Virginia aged 12 or older with illicit drug dependence or abuse, about 8,000 people received treatment for their illicit drug use within the year prior to being surveyed.
