In a single-day count in 2013, there were 37,262 people in Ohio who were enrolled in substance use treatment, which was a slight increase compared to 2009.

Among people in Ohio who were enrolled in substance use treatment, 32.4% were in treatment for drug use only, 15.6% were in treatment for alcohol use only, and 52.1% were in treatment for both drug and alcohol use.

In Ohio, about 683,000 people aged 12 or older were dependent on or abused alcohol within the year prior to being surveyed.

About 286,000 people in Ohio aged 12 or older were dependent on or abused illicit drugs within the year prior to being surveyed.

More than 630,000 adults aged 21 or older reported heavy alcohol use in Ohio within the month prior to being surveyed.

Among the people in Ohio aged 12 or older with alcohol dependence or abuse, about 59,000 of them received treatment for their alcohol use within the year prior to being surveyed.

In a single-day count, more than 4,900 people in Ohio were receiving methadone as part of their substance use treatment, and over 2,600 were receiving buprenorphine. The number of methadone has remained fairly steady with a slight increase, but the buprenorphine users has nearly tripled in five years.

Among the people aged 12 or older in Ohio with illicit drug dependence or abuse, about 40,000 individuals received treatment for their illicit drug use within the year prior to being surveyed.
