In a single-day count, 12,868 people in New Mexico were enrolled in substance use treatment. The number of people in treatment appears to fluctuate from year to year.

Among the people in New Mexico enrolled in a drug or alcohol rehab in a single-day, 30.6% were in treatment for drug use only, 19.9% were in treatment for alcohol use only, and 49.6% were in treatment for both drug and alcohol use.

In New Mexico, about 132,000 people aged 12 or older per year were dependent on or abused alcohol within the year prior to being surveyed. Nearly 60,000 people in the same age range either abused or were dependent on illicit drugs in the past year as well. Neither of these estimates showed significant change in recent years.

About 94,000 adults aged 21 or older in New Mexico reported heavy alcohol use within the month prior to being surveyed.

Among people in New Mexico aged 12 or older with alcohol dependence or abuse, about 14,000 per
year received treatment for their alcohol use within the year prior to being surveyed.

In a single-day count, 2,407 people in New Mexico were receiving methadone as part of their substance use treatment, and 332 were receiving buprenorphine. Both of these numbers have remained pretty steady over the past five years.

In New Mexico, among the people aged 12 or older with illicit drug dependence or abuse, about 8,000 of them received treatment for their illicit drug use within the past year.
