In a single-day count in 2012, 3,770 people in Minnesota were receiving methadone as part of their substance use treatment, and 367 were receiving buprenorphine. The numbers signify considerable growth in the number of people on methadone in the state.

Among people aged 12 or older in Minnesota with illicit drug dependence or abuse, about 13,000 persons per year in received treatment for their illicit drug use within the previous year.
