Maine has more than 200 drug and alcohol rehab programs scattered throughout the state. These facilities combine to provide treatment services to over 10,000 residents at a time. Unfortunately Maine has a very low percentage of people attending inpatient programs vs. outpatient compared to the rest of the country. As with other parts of the Northeast, Maine is dealing with a major opiate problem and many of the users are diverted to opioid maintenance programs rather than residential treatment.
